one time in nursery during church i was sitting at a table coloring when my heart dropped into my stomach when i realized my dad was no longer with me. i immediately stood up and dropped the crayons. with a quivering lip i approached my nursery leader. she motioned over to the corner . . . my dad was lying on his side playing with a train, on the ground. that was close.

i always remember my dad working. even when he got home from work he would work . . . on the house, in the yard, on the car. i guess he's what you could call a workaholic, but it's always for us, his family. i never saw my dad in front of the T.V. unless it was to watch a movie with my mom. even the things that relax him are hard work, running, camping, hiking . . . not exactly mindless or effortless tasks.

one time my sister moved to arizona and he didn't want her driving her old unreliable chevy lumina so he traded cars with her. he gave her his 6 month old honda and drove her old car for over a year.
my dad is the most selfless, humble, patient, insightful, honest, kind man i know. and he's probably embarrassed that i posted this. i try to follow his and my mom's footsteps and hope acquire these qualities and maybe if i'm lucky - find someone else who is striving towards them too.
i love you Dad! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
