my thanksgiving was a bit backwards this year. i think it started when i booked my flight for ranzenberger keri. yes i got confused and typed in my first name as my last name while booking my flight. i also made it to colorado with a pair of scissors in my carry-on. they made sure i took most of my clothes off and my shoes to get through security, but overlooked the sharp metal object unintentionally stowed away in my purple adidas bag. i think scissors are one of the items pictured on that giant poster of what not to bring on the aircraft. in any case i arrived safe and sound.

my sister, kristen, and i decided that this year we would escape awkward small talk with distant relatives and save ourselves the extra calories by snowboarding on wednesday and thanksgiving day.

. . . but since when do things go as planned?

wednesday. woke up starving. poured myself a bowl of cereal. after a few bites my stomach hurt so 20 minutes later i was bent over the toilet bowl, puking. that was fun! kind of a flashback of last year when i threw-up after eating year old raisin bran out of my brother bryan's pantry. i stayed in bed the rest of the morning stalking people on facebook and watching 'skating with the stars' on hulu.

thursday. thanksgiving day. we ate breakfast on the go and headed to monarch ski resort. after an hour and a half in the car we finally reached our destination. a desolate parking lot and non-moving ski-lifts. wait what? the thing about ski resorts is that it doesn't matter if on the website it says their opening day is november 23rd because they still might NOT be open until friday. turns out they changed their opening day. we drove the hour and a half back to kristen's apartment disappointed, but if there is anyone i would want to spend thanksgiving with, in a car for three hours not snowboarding, it would be her.

thanksgiving dinner consisted of left-over pizza and flat mountain dew.

saturday: my amazing grandmother insisted that my sister and i have a ‘real’ thanksgiving meal so she made us one. and my nephew seriously just shot me in the side of the face with a nerf gun as i’m typing this. i love my grandparents.

i have a lot to be grateful for and i’m not just saying that because it’s thanksgiving. a simple blog post hardly seems adequate to express my gratitude for everything i have been blessed with, but i suppose that doesn’t really matter. all i can do is try to be a little more gracious in everything i do.

thappy hanksgiving.

with love,
ranzenberger
