i've only been to vegas twice in my life and although both times were a blast i can't help but wonder what the appeal of vegas is for a broke, mormon, college student like me. unless of course you play tag with your friends up and down the strip and pretend to be drunk, but that's another story.

this year my venture to vegas wasn't just to mess around. i was there to compete in the 2011 Pacific Coast Adult Sectional Championships.

[basically it's a competition for figure skaters like me who quit when they were younger and shouldn't have, but want to re-live the glory days and pretend like they're not over-weight and still kind of cool]

... but what happens in vegas doesn't always stay there because the results of this competition determine if you can go on to the 2011 Adult Figure Skating Championships. if you place in the top four of your group you get to compete at nationals. [this year they're being held in salt lake city]

well, despite a crappy performance i placed third out of six, but i won't complain because BAM! i'm going to nationals where i will compete against eleven other skates who also qualified for nationals in my level across the united states.

the cool thing about competing in vegas as opposed to omaha or missouri like used to when i was a kid, is the things you get to do when you're done competing, like walk around aimlessly, looking at all the pretty bright lights . . . and that's about it because i'm mormon and don't drink or gamble. :)

my coach rory won forty five bucks and she wasn't even trying. chelsie and i weren't so lucky. i gambled and lost a nickel because that was all that i had.

viva las vegas.
salt lake city here i come.
