sometimes i think about my future and i freak out a little bit. but i have recently come to the conclusion that at every stage in life there is a measure of uncertainty ahead. i have to admit, this makes me a little uneasy. ok a lot uneasy. but tonight before i went to bed (still haven't gone to bed because i'm updating my blog.) i decided to log onto lds.org because i'm too lazy to grab my scriptures - they're in the other room. anyway - i clicked on a link that led me to a talk from this past conference by Elder Nelson. and i would like to share some things that stood out to me the most . . .
“We live in a time of turmoil. Earthquakes and tsunamis wreak devastation, governments collapse, economic stresses are severe, the family is under attack, and divorce rates are rising. We have great cause for concern. But we do not need to let our fears displace our faith. We can combat those fears by strengthening our faith.
If we pray with an eternal perspective, we need not wonder if our most tearful and heartfelt pleadings are heard. This promise from the Lord is recorded in section 98 of the Doctrine and Covenants:
“Your prayers have entered into the ears of the Lord … and are recorded with this seal and testament—the Lord hath sworn and decreed that they shall be granted ... Therefore, he giveth this promise unto you, with an immutable covenant that they shall be fulfilled; and all things wherewith you have been afflicted shall work together for your good, and to my name’s glory, saith the Lord.”
Why do we need such resilient faith? Because difficult days are ahead. Rarely in the future will it be easy or popular to be a faithful Latter-day Saint. Each of us will be tested. The Apostle Paul warned that in the latter days, those who diligently follow the Lord “shall suffer persecution.” That very persecution can either crush you into silent weakness or motivate you to be more exemplary and courageous in your daily lives.
President Monson: “My beloved brothers and sisters, fear not. Be of good cheer. The future is as bright as your faith.”
i often feel like peter when he started sinking into the water ... too weak to stay afloat. but it doesn't matter how many times the Lord has to pick us back up again, if we keep trying one day our faith will be strong enough to part a whole sea.
it is now 1:05. too late for me to be awake, i have class in the morning. but i hope somebody finds that has comforting as i did.
good night!
